Altered Sites 2023

Curated by George Charman and Dr David Stent, the exhibition Altered Sites was presented alongside the symposium Altered Sites: On Psychedelic Architecture, held at West Dean College on May 26th, 2023. The symposium explored experimental and critical approaches to architectural form through the exploration of built and/or imagined structures as sites of alterity, utilising the notion of psychedelic experience and expansive consciousness to engage with site as a potentially productive form of difference, dynamism, and otherness. Contributors questioned how structures – in buildings, constructed objects, images, writing, creative practices – in which gestures of inversion, reversal, enfolding, involution, projection, expansion, collapse, – remain present within the resultant construction.
